As I child I never thought I would fall in love with sewing even though I come from generations of seamstresses and tailors. I vividly remember my father working for long periods on his noisy industrial sewing machine while his cassettes blasted in the background. I couldn't wait for him to stop sewing- at that time I didn't know that it would one day turn into my passion.
I've always considered myself to be creative, always sketching and writing ideas down. There were clothes and accessories that I wanted but could never find in stores, I figured I could always learn to make them for myself. I kept telling myself that I wanted to learn to sew but felt too old to be a sewing novice. One day in 2015 I decided to just do it. I enrolled in a short sewing course and started turning to my father for tips. I learned to make clothes and didn't think about making bags until a friend asked me to make her a clutch for her birthday. I was reluctant but it came out half way decent. I didn't try my hand at bags again until a few months later.
I started making clutches for my mom and sisters and went through a lot of trial and error. The more I sewed the greater my passion became. I often thought about starting a line but never acted on it. At the end of 2016 I decided to make it happen, I told myself that 2017 will not be the year of what ifs and thus Mel and MaG was born. My hope is that my brand and passion will continue to grow!
